Our Story
Bethlehem Christian Academy Was Started Out of Love
It may seem unimportant…a small handwritten post-it note. It could have easily been missed, but it was found under the pastor’s office door …an act of simple obedience to God… a dream in a young mother’s heart. What if the church building that sat empty all week could be filled with children? What if God’s word was taught in love as the foundation for all they were learning?
Many sleepless nights and prayers led to the writing of that simple post-it note ”I believe God is calling me to start a preschool here”
was all that was written on that note…
And prayers began. And God would, in time, reveal His “much bigger” plan than a preschool.
Like most anything great, Bethlehem Christian Academy was started out of love. God chose as its leaders a businessman whose father had given him the gift of a Christian education, a young mother with a dream, and a church who was willing to accept the fingerprints of children and families, as they became part of the school family.
Confirmation that BCA was God’s plan was evident from the very beginning. A board was appointed from members of Bethlehem Church and Rhonda Whiting, the young mother with the dream, was named the Head of School. On May 15, 2000, the board met for the first time and prayed for 40 students for the preschool.
On September 4th of the same year, Bethlehem First Baptist Preschool opened its doors with 68 students and 7 staff members. The next year, the board continued to follow in their faithfulness to God’s calling and added a half-day kindergarten class.
What if God’s word was taught in love as the foundation for all they were learning?
The following year, in 2002, after much prayer, the decision was made
to continue the school through at least the 5th grade by adding a grade each year. Thus, Bethlehem First Baptist Preschool became Bethlehem Christian Academy with 170 students enrolled.
As the years went on, the school continued adding all grades through high school serving over 1,000 students from preschool through the 12th grade.
As the school grew, God continued to show His favor.
We are excited for what He has planned for BCA in the future.
May we always create a desire to know and serve God in the heart of each student by equipping them academically, physically, spiritually, and socially to fulfill God’s purpose in their life.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
