Media and Technology

Media and Technology

Technology is widely used at BCA at every level of learning. Our elementary and JH/HS divisions each have their own media center and dedicated media specialist. Each classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, sound system, and high-speed internet access.
In our elementary program, iPads in every classroom allow teachers to draw upon a wide array of technology-based instructional strategies and applications. Students have access to our online library system, Whooo's Reading, Britannica online encyclopedia, IXL Math & Language, MAP assessments, and much more.

JH and HS students all participate in our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. We give students widely flexible options in choosing the type of device they bring to class as noted below. As a school, we have invested in a robust infrastructure to ensure plenty of internet access availability thereby sustaining the high demand of our technology-active classrooms. We have also invested in the research databases and productivity applications students need to create, collaborate, communicate, and critically solve problems. Each BCA student/parent is given free access to the follow tools:

  • Microsoft Office 365 including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneDrive, and OneNote
  • A Microsoft student email account
  • Schoology (our learning management system)
  • FACTS (our student information system)
  • (for submitting papers that are checked for originality and allow teachers to give valuable writing feedback)
  • Gale (sophisticated research databases to access scholarly articles and journals)
  • IXL Math (grades 3-5)
  • Whooo's Reading (K-5)
Teachers also regularly use internet resources such Quizlet, Nearpod, Kahoot, Classflow, and more to engage students in learning.

Technology Requirements

All students in 6th-12th grade are required to bring their own personal laptop and a charger each school day.

List of 3 items.

  • What kind of laptop should I buy for my student?

Students may bring any laptop of their choosing as long as it has the capacity to download a desktop version of the Microsoft 365 Office suite, which is provided by BCA. PC and Mac laptop platforms are acceptable options.
  • Can my student use an iPad, Chromebook, or other portable device?

No, these devices do not support the technology tools that we use in the classroom.
  • What else should I think about before purchasing?

It is recommended that students consider a portable size for use on a small surface, carrying from class to class, and locker storage. Also, parents may want to consider purchasing additional damage insurance if they are concerned about possible issues with this, as the school cannot assume liability for broken or damaged devices.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding your student's device Thank you for partnering with BCA as we strive to provide the best in education for our students and equip them for their future.
